According to Internet researchers website visitors decide in less than 2 minutes whether or not they want to continue at your website. Proper design and development of your site can enhance your company’s image and can open your doors to a new client or customer base. As an Internet specialist I’ve designed many, many websites and have reviewed thousands of them over the years. Many have asked what makes a great website - what should and should not be included on websites. As a result of these questions, I’ve put together my list of 25 Deadly Website Sins. Weak content - on the Internet content is KING! Write quality content for your website identifying the benefits and features of your products and/or services. Use key words and key phrases (words and phrases that people will type into search engines to search for your service and/or products) throughout your web pages. Your website content needs to grab the attention of both your website visitors and the Search Engines. Give your website visitors quality content and they will spend more time investigating your website and your offerings. They will also be inclined to tell their friends and family to visit your website. If they don’t find what they are looking for they will quickly move on to another website.

Slow download times. (Download time refers to the amount of time it takes for a website to appear on a visitor’s computer monitor.) Websites experience slow download times due to a number of reasons; their images (pictures) might be too large, they might have too many small images, too many animated graphics and sound clips on a specific page. Keep these items to a minimum. Use image editors to set the correct size and resolution (72 dpi) of your images and graphics for the Internet. Use sound clips sparingly if at all. If you do not know how to do this, seek the help of a professional.

While these signs may look cute; they create a unprofessional image. Websites should never be considered finished. Fresh and new information, pictures and graphics should be added on a regular basis.
